Enjoy a few still photos in this Photo Montage from a beach wedding ceremony performed on Siesta Key Beach- Wedding Reception catering at Sarasota Garden Club by Simply Gourmet caterers in Sarasota, FL

Here are tips for planning your multicultural wedding on the beach:

1. It’s your wedding. What’s important to you?

When merging your styles, not every tradition will be feasibly logistical. Determine what traditions are important to combine.  Personalize the ceremony and reception by picking what matters to you, such as a money dance during the wedding reception. Not into the father giving the bride away? Give the honor to a special friend or Mother-of-the-Bride ( MOB ).

2. Let your fashion make a statement about who you are!

Look for those modern interpretations of your traditional outfits & find ways to blend cultures, such as wearing a red ballgown for a Chinese wedding. We recommend convertible dresses for brides who need covered shoulders for religious ceremonies but want strapless dresses for the reception. Save the high heels for your reception and wear fancy sandals to your wedding ceremony on the beach. Wear a white wedding gown to your wedding ceremony and then change into an African dress for cocktail hour! Grooms can change into Scottish kilts or traditional African wear to express their love of heritage too!

2. Serve foods that reflect your family and your culture

To incorporate specific ingredients or family dishes, speak with your caterer or wedding venue. Royal Haggis is a traditional Scottish food that will not please everyone, but I encourage you to embrace ideas from the start and have fun brainstorming with your chef. If you’re wedding is in need of the finest cuisine, Chef Larry with Simply Gourmet can feed those cravings with some of the best  food in town. Chef Larry also cooks some of my very favorite delicious vegetarian meals! You can play with specialty cocktails, using native ingredients to spice up cocktail hour. Cuba’s most famous cocktail, the mojito has undergone many international variations with tequila, gin, soju, or other local spirit substituting Cuban rum. Traditional Italian wedding deserts can include grandmother cookies, Tiramisu, and Italian wedding cake. I shot a fabulous wedding reception with different buffet tables representing different countries. They served a variety of pastas from Italy, enchiladas and various rice dishes from Mexico, Sushi from Japan, French pastries from Paris, and an All-American buffet table with burgers, chicken tenders and fries for the kids. I was surprised at how many adult wedding guests liked this option.

The Ritz-Carlton’s “Vow to Help Others”

November 10, 2009 by Leslie

When you’re busy planning your wedding, it’s easy to forget about the less fortunate. But I feel so strongly that if you can incorporate a meaningful charity into your wedding, it makes it all the more special.

A good one is the Ritz-Carlton’s “Vow to Help Others” program, which enables couples celebrating their marriage at a Ritz-Carlton Hotel or Resort to donate five percent of the total food revenue from their wedding to a charity of their choice AND to The Ritz-Carlton’s “Community Footprints Fund.”

“A Vow To Help Others” is applicable to wedding events booked prior to December 31, 2009.
